Mcleodganj and Triund Trek
Kangra valley, in the western part of Himachal and Dhauladhar is one of the most unique and beautiful mountain ranges. Triund has compiled millions of trekkers to exploit its beauty. Triund is a serene and alluring trekking destination. Lush greenery all around, clear sky puffed by mountains, meadows and summits, makes this trek an incredible experience for trekkers. The views from Triund are simply marvellous, with a progression of snow clogged standing tall. From the top of Triund, you can also see the beautiful Kangra valley where McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala are located. I have always been fascinated by trekking and hiking stories. I had an unforgettable journey, the view at the top was by far the best that ever seen. The trek involves gradual to steep ascents that even amateurs can cover, Mcleodganj to Triund distance is not much and not exhausting either. The trek is easy, but the last km are relatively steep. Along the way, there are many small tea shops where one can refresh during the hike. Triund is located 8 km from Mcleodganj, 8 kms from Ghalu temple and lies at the feet of the snow clad Dhauladhar. The snow line starts at Ilaka Gote. Triund is a popular trekking spot. The handful tea shops located along the trail and after a few cups of steaming tea and chance to rest the feet and continued the journey. The tracks from Rawa, Dal Lake, Dharamkot and Bhagsunag meet at a ridge known as Galu temple, which has a small shrine and water point. Most of the trackers just walk in and get adjusted at various accomodations in Triund.

DAY 1 : MCLEODGANJ, MONESTRY
Last evening from ISBT board the Volvo Coach for McLeodganj. Overnight bus journey from delhi to Mcleodganj. After reaching Mcleodganj early morning. The trek can start from the Main Square, take the road going towards Dharamkot from the diversion of Dharamkot or there is an option to take an auto till Water Tank or till the end of road. We choose to walk from Main Square, enjoying the amazing view of the City, beautiful houses, shop around and local people. and then you will take a little walk to reach hotel in Mcleaodganj and relaxed. Breakfast was ready before we reach hotel. Take some rest and spending some time exploring the impressive surrounds. After having breakfast, we going back to Mcleodganj main square few steps away from the road at the right side is the way to the Monastery. We visit the famous The Dalai Lama’s monastery and chit chat with few monks.
Day1 : BHAGSUNAG WATERFALL, NAADI VILLAGE
After a short break we begin the day for Bhagsu Nag waterfall. We are on the way of our trail pathway towards the magnificent Bhagsu waterfall. Flexibility to walking on the challenging rocks, which were there from many years.Than plan to go Mcleodgaj to Naadi Village from Dharamkot. We started through the Deodar predominant forest area in Upper Naddi. These trees can establish their roots in the steepest and rockiest of slopes. We passing through the diverse mixed and thick forest of deodar trees and oak to reach our destination. Ascending from there brought us to a dense Rhododendron forest on either side of the path, which was unchanging for the better half of the trek. We stopped every couple hundred meters to catch our breath and a glimpse of Naddi from the top.
Day2 : MCLEODGANJ TO TRIUND
A picturesque journey till Galu Devta temple from where the Triund trek started. We started around 7am after having breakfast, the initial stretch of the trek was easy. We planned to reach the camping site before lunch. Trek covered with trees, rock-cut walkways and journey was full of thrills. Triund is crown and offers a perfect view and witnessed some amazing views of Mountains. Triund is Jewel of Mcleodganj. Trust me, just 4 hours trek to Triund, your McLeodganj visit is incomplete. Located above McLeodganj in the lap of Dhauladhar range. Triund can be reached by a steep uphill trek from Dhramkot through rhododendron and oak trees. We kept hiking with peaceful and very close to nature, as we progressed on our way to triund. The next stretch for Triund was moderate, steeper and the altitude higher, first timer can get exhaust easily. Mountain view from here was phenomenal. The trek was although easy but was a steep one somewhere.
We decided to relax at Magic view tea shop, which is oldest one from 1984. The most difficult stretch to reaching Triund was from Magic View tea shop because trek time was less than resting and struggled to reach the peak. A shepherd’s dog walking along with sheep and guided them. We were exuberant to reach the trek. After continuous trekking, reached on the top where we found Triund welcoming us with its large green fields and a chilled breeze. You'll probably forget about the fatigue and get lost in the iconic landscape. We setting up our tents for night stay. 1-2 Small Tea shop at triund with limited stock of food. Because we reach before lunch all the stock available. Than we order egg-prantha and pulao, after lunch take order masala tea. We were delighted by the clouds, passing us through, touching the souls and create a mesmerizing atmosphere. As he prepared our Dinner and serve us. We sat around the bonfire with some other trekkers also join us and we shared our travel experiences. Its too cold at midnight, so we move to our tent and slept. We enjoyed cracking jokes the overnight stay at the camp in Triund.
Day3 : TRIUND TO MCLEODGANJ TO DELHI
Next morning Shop Owner provide bed Tea inside the tent. We go out from tent and take morning walk. Triund is considered known as grazing grounds for sheeps and goats of Gaddi Shephards. After sometime shop owner prepared breakfast. We were instantly blown away by the morning view. The view of the majestic, snow clad mountains was pristine! Some travelers enjoy setting up or spend fun time. We started our descent early because it is as tricky as the ascending part. In the evening from Mcleodganj board the Volvo Coach for Delhi. Overnight bus journey from Mcleodganj to Delhi, reached Delhi at 6 am. If you wish to gain more height then you can hike till Laka got, Snowline, Lahesh Cave, Indrahar Pass and exit to Chamba

HOW TO REACH
BY AIR : Kangra Airport at Dharamshala is about 20 km away from McLeodganj and is well connected to Delhi, Kullu and Chandigarh. Airlines operate regular flights. After reaching the airport, travellers can hire taxis or take buses to reach their destination, which takes around an hour.
BY TRAIN : Pathankot Railway Station, situated approximately 90 km away, is the closest broad gauge railhead serving those headed to McLeodganj. Some of the popular trains available from Delhi for Pathankot are Jammu Mail and Uttar Sampark Kranti. Once you reach Pathankot, take a taxi or bus from outside the station, which is easily available.
BY ROAD : Private buses are well connected McLeodganj with other cities like Delhi, Chandigarh and Dharamshala etc. In Delhi, most of the Volvo private buses leave between 5 pm - 6 pm. from the Kashmiri Gate ISBT and Majnu-ka-Tilla (a Tibetian camp). Plan your onward journeys accordingly.
WHAT ARE THE RISK INVOLVED ?
Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS): Shortness breath, Mild headache & Tiredness are some common in high altitude trek. Risk of being hit by AMS is considerably low but you are advised to be on a course of Diamox. In case of any medical emergencies, there are easy exit points on this trek, means evacuation will generally not take more than 24 hours.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR TREK
Prepration: Fight again sub-zero temperatures, carry multi layers throughout winter trek and practice carrying packed backpack to comfortable with it. Carrying dry fruits will help on trek since they provide instant energy. The ascent-descent during the trek demands level of fitness. Begin your fitness preparation, jogging 5 Km in 30 minute before One month or two before start the trek, stretching exercises for flexibility are important so you don’t get cramps in trek.
